Guadalupe Ceballos (left) is a fortunate man. He owns a restaurant that is named after his daughter, and he says he thinks of Esteban Cano (right) as a son. Ceballos and Cano work together at Doreen’s Tropical Fruits at 102 W. 7th Street, where they serve fruit drinks, sandwiches, and snacks. Ceballos is a native of Monterrey, Mexico, and he’s been in the U.S. for 27 years. Cano arrived from Huehuetenango, Guatemala, two years ago. Ceballos has owned the restaurant on 7th Street for five years. Cano is a fast learner who works hard, but it will take a few more years before he can match the most recent accomplishment of his boss. That’s because Ceballos became a U.S. citizen on August 13. The Garment & Citizen congratulates Ceballos on his citizenship. We also extend congratulatons to Cano for his ongoing efforts to make a new life for himself here in Los Angeles.
