Business is slow these days (see related story, left), but there’s always something causing a stir for these two hard-working fellows. Pedro Avila came to Los Angeles from Sonora, Mexico, and he’s been working at the Joe’s Auto Parks lot on the 900 block of S. Broadway and S. Main for more than 30 years. Roberto Rodriguez came to Los Angeles from his native Sinaloa, Mexico, and has been at the same lot for 25 years. The two of them were plenty busy the past couple of weeks as L.A. Fashion Week rolled through the neighborhood, followed by the Los Angeles International Textile Show at the nearby California Market Center—and they handled all of the visitors just fine, as usual. Their co-worker Ruben Campos, who hails from Missouri, didn’t get into this picture because a recent visit found him busy moving cars around. Campos says that’s fine, pointing out that he’s only got a couple of years on the job, which makes him the junior colleague on the lot.
