Raising Cain in the Old Bank District

A “Kick in the Intellect:” Anyone looking to challenge themselves and enjoy a highly acclaimed documentary film at the same time can do all of that at a bargain price this weekend. The bargain will be available thanks to local filmmaker Jenny Abel, host Old Bank DVD, and Gilmore & Associates, which has made the Farmers & Merchants Bank Building available for a screening of “Abel Raises Cain.” The documentary tells the story of Alan Abel, who “continues to taunt the media and the masses with his nutty ideas, imaginary organizations, and seemingly nonsensical campaigns.” Viewers will see and hear Abel’s story through the eyes of his daughter Jenny, an award-winning filmmaker. Admission is $3, and the screening is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the Farmers & Merchants Bank Building, located at 401 S. Main Street. “Abel Raises Cain” will be followed by a screening of “Is there Sex After Death,” a cult comedy classic that was produced, written and directed by Alan Abel and his wife, Jeanne, and stars Buck Henry, Holly Woodlawn, and Robert Downey, Sr. Call Old Bank DVD at (213) 613-9654 for more information.
