Westlake Take on Wilshire Boulevard Buses
Public Planning: Representatives of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will travel to the Westlake district west of Downtown for one of four upcoming public meetings on a proposal for a new rapid transit bus project along Wilshire Boulevard. MTA officials are currently assessing the potential of establishing dedicated curbside bus lanes on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The plan would cover Wilshire Boulevard between Downtown and Santa Monica, with the exception of sections that pass through Beverly Hills. Officials of the transit agency say the plan could reduce times on buses along Wilshire Boulevard—the busiest corridor for public transit in Los Angeles County—by an average of 24%, boosting transit ridership in the area by as much as 20%, and easing traffic congestion. The cost of reconstructing curb lanes, re-striping streets, and other work related to plan is estimated at $31.5 million. The project, if approved, could go into effect as early as December 2011. The meeting in Westlake is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19th, on the 5th floor of Southwestern Law School, located at 3050 Wilshire Boulevard. The public is welcome to attend free of charge. Call (213) 922-1210 for more information.
